There’s lots of like about golf.
It is one of only a handful of sports that can be played as an individual, as a team member, and with your family and friends.
It is both highly competitive and extremely social.
It appeals to all physical abilities and provides a competition and handicap structure that accommodates play between all ability levels.
These school holidays, why not introduce your children to golf?
Tanya Smith from Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) said there were many benefits of introducing kids to the game.

”It’s an outdoor activity that provides the opportunity to learn social skills, etiquette and how to interact with adults.
“It teaches them core values such as honesty, respect, discipline, integrity and a strong work ethic.
“Golf can become a sport for life that they can play socially for a long time, or for the talented it could even become a career,” she said.
JNJG encourages golf clubs to run clinics and in the Sutherland area several courses are getting into the swing these holidays.
“The Ridge Golf Club, Woolooware Golf Club and Kareela Golf Club will all be running a ‘Come and Try’ day during the school holidays which allows kids to go and try golf. Register through JNJG,” Mrs Smith said.
“Some of the clubs will also be running School Holiday Camps – contact your local club to find out more information.
“School term MyGolf clinics will be run at Cronulla GC, Woolooware GC, Kareela GC and The Ridge throughout the year so there are lots of opportunities wherever you are for kids to get involved in golf,” she said.
The JNJG program offers a pathway from Grass Roots through to Elite.
Kids start in club programs then once they are able to play nine holes, they enter Juniors On The Move.
From there they continue into master events and other major events.
Talented children can then go into JNJG Development Squads and JNJG High Performance Squads.
These kids can also be invited into the Golf NSW High Performance Squad and the Golf Australia Squad.
JNJG also works with schools to run golf programs; currently in the Sutherland area there are trainee professionals and professionals running the programs. “If a teacher wants to run the program they can get accredited by doing the MyGolf Schools accreditation online course through Golf Australia and PGA,” Mrs Smith said.
JNJG also run practical days where the teachers can come along and get some hands-on training of the MyGolf program.
