She has a voice that has been described as “world class” but Simone Waddell plans on sharing it with those closest to home on Thursday night.

The shire resident will launch her new album Surrender at The Brass Monkey, Cronulla.

The soulful singer will be joined by well-known Australian jazz guitarist Jim Kelly as the guest of honour at the show which will also feature special guests Doug Williams, Rebecca Henry and Kathy Vavahea.

Waddell, who holds a Contemporary Music Bachelor of Arts degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts, saw her career hit a new level in the US with the launch of her first two albums Take My Love and Make it Happen.

Waddell has spent the last four months performing in Japan following on from the launch of her jazz album My Romance in October last year.

And now the Lugarno resident is back with an album of her original material, produced by Kelly, featuring soul, funk, pop and contemporary ballads.

It features exquisite songwriting and exceptional playing, drenched with the soul and feeling of Waddell’s unique voice.

Waddell will be joined on stage by her band including Mitch Farmer on drums, Ralph Marshall on bass and backing vocals, guitarist Dave Holmes and pianist Annie Z.

Waddell said she and her musicians were looking forward to performing the new songs live.

Kelly, one of Australia’s leading contemporary jazz guitarists, paid tribute to Waddell and hinted the pair may team up again in the future.

“Simone is a beautiful, whirling dervish of energetic creative talent,” he said.

“The studio environment bares the souls of all participants and Simone would stand as one of the easiest and focused artists that I’ve worked with.

“She possesses an open creative spirit and the musicianship and vocal technique allowing it all to come together.

“I’m looking forward to a long musical relationship with Simone over the ensuing years.

“There is bucketloads of creativity and stunning singing on this new album.

“I would also say this is the best playing of my life on these songs.”

Doors open at 6.30pm with music to start at 7.45pm.
