Georges River Council is hosting a number of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week from July 3 to 10.
Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner encouraged residents to come along and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia.
“NAIDOC Week is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the contributions and accomplishments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities,” he said.
“We have a series of great events taking place this week which is a great opportunity for everyone to learn and appreciate the rich and diverse Aboriginal cultures that exist within the local area.”
The council will be hosting a number of activities on Tuesday, July 5 at the Civic Theatre of the Hurstville Entertainment Centre to commemorate NAIDOC Week including arts and crafts for children, a flag raising ceremony, traditional Aboriginal didgeridoo and dance performances and the launch of the book ‘I am Aboriginal: this is my story.’

On Monday, July 18, the council is also hosting a craft and story sharing event called ‘Yarning
Together’ with a local community elder at Kogarah Library and Cultural Centre from 10.30pm to 12noon.
