The number of heavy vehicle movements around the site would more than double to 430 a day, an environmental impact statement said.
Under the plans, the quantity of non-putrescible waste processed by the privately owned facility would increase from 30,000 tonnes to 300,000 tonnes per year.
Non-putrescible waste includes metal, timber, paper, cardboard, glass, plastics, ceramics, asphalt, soils, bricks and concrete.
The proposed expansion would include demolishing existing buildings, site preparation works, constructing a shed and awning and an office and installing two weigh bridges.
The Department of Planning and Environment placed the proposal on exhibition on Friday for community consultation.
Submissions can be made until Monday, August 22.
A State Significant development, the application can be approved by the Minister for Planning, rather than Georges River Council
The waste facility is to be operated by Mortdale Recycling Pty Ltd and owned by Hearne Street Pty Ltd.
The existing waste transfer facility was approved in June, 2011.
An environmental impact statement (EIS) said the proposed facility would generate a total of 430 heavy vehicle movements (two way) per day.
”The existing facility generates approximately 204 (two way) vehicle movements per day, processing 30,000 tonnes of waste per annum,” it said.
“While the proposal represents a tenfold increase in waste processing, this will not result in a tenfold increase in heavy vehicle movements...
“The increase in capacity is predicted to result in larger heavy vehicles utilising the facility.”
The proposal can be viewed online or at council service centres.
