Australian children’s charity Life Education – the organisation behind the educational mascot, Healthy Harold, launched a new strategy to tackle the rising level of childhood obesity in NSW.
More than one in 5 NSW primary school children are overweight or obese.
Life Education has rolled out new preventative health education programs for school children.
It promotes the importance of diet, exercise and health through visual and interactive technology.
Hannans Road Public School recently welcomed a visit by Healthy Harold.
School principal Dan Sprange says the obesity program supports the delivery of positive well-being.
“Primary education is all about establishing foundation understanding which will give students opportunity and quality of life in the future,” he said.
“Healthy childhood habits become healthy adult lifestyles.
“The Life Education team gave our students unique insights into the implications of lifestyle choices such as how sugar affects the human body over the long term.
“The recently updated resources and expertise provided high impact experiences which were thoroughly enjoyed by our students”.
