It had been a season that promised so much but Rockdale City’s NSW NPL 1 campaign is over after the Suns suffered a 4-2 loss to Bonnyrigg in their elimination final.
Rockdale hosted the White Eagles at Lily’s Football Centre, Seven Hills on Saturday night looking to recapture the form that had seen them sit comfortably inside the top three for most of the year until a late season slump saw them finish fourth.
The Suns went behind after eight minutes when Bonnyrigg’s Asmir Kadric opened the scoring.
Rockdale were level on 25 minutes when Daniel Petkovski smashed home the equaliser from a corner.
A 65th minute goal to Alexander Mansueto restored Bonnyrigg’s lead before Robbie Younis looked to have won the game with two minutes to play.
But Rockdale weren’t done, as Alec Urosevski volleyed home a minute later to give the Suns hope.
Unfortunately their joy was short lived as Martin Lo curled home Bonnyrigg’s winner in the dying stages.
Sutherland’s under-20s were eliminated 5-4 on penalties in their semi-final by Sydney Olympic after Patrick O’Shea had seemingly rescued his side with a 90th minute equaliser.
Sutherland’s under-18s were beaten 2-0 by Wollongong. The Sharks now face a must-win match against Blacktown Spartans on Saturday.
