The annual Wakakirri Performing Arts Festival is back for another year, and there to set the stage alight is St Joseph’s Primary School.
The school performs in the finals from September 20-21 at Sydney Olympic Park.
The festival encourages primary and high schools to express issues important to them.
Pupils will tell the story of how mother nature opens her arms to embrace humanity, providing beauty in her surrounds.
But there is a dark side – human irresponsibility in the form of harm to the environment will be represented through the unity and resilience of the natural world.
Wakakirri is the largest performing arts event for schools in Australia where students perform in professional theatres in front of a panel of industry professionals.
Students create dances that reflect their thoughts, ideas and inspirations through movement, acting, music, props, costumes, sets, singing and film projection.
There are awards for different categories including best environmental or mental health story, best choreography, solo dance, teamwork, set design, lighting and staging.
Finalists have the chance to win the overall national title on October 20.
