Connells Point Sailing Club will host the NSW International Optimist Dinghy Association’s Traveller’s Trophy regatta on Sunday.
About 80 sailors are expected to participate in the event with local sailors Liam Donohue, Nathan Deng, Tom Bryden and Toshi Bennett flying the flag for the Connells Point club.
An international racing dinghy, the optimist is sailed in more than 120 countries around the world.
It is the type of boat many Olympic sailors begin racing as youngsters including many of the 11 sailors from the Australian Olympic team. Australia won seven sailing medals at the Rio games.
Connells Point have a strong place in the local sailing community and will hold discover sailing courses over the summer.
