Apple’s annual smartphone update offers users a “splash-proof” design and a longer battery life, which excited Ms Collins.
“I’m getting the matte black 32GB one,” Ms Collins said. “I’m going to get more space for photos. The longer battery life is good too, my old one was flat by midday.”
The launch comes while smartphone rival Samsung is in the throes of a recall amid fears of exploding batteries.
Telstra licensee Kelly Miller said the launch was big.
“People are excited by the new features and they’re also keen to get the extra storage models,” Ms Miller said. “The dual-lens system “Plus” has also been popular, who’d have ever thought a camera phone would replace the family camera?”
