State government minister Brad Hazzard has threatened to name insurance companies, who are “ducking behind words” to reject claims after the huge June storms.
Residents and businesses in St George and Sutherland Shire were among many thousands of policy holders who made insurance claims after suburbs along the coast were battered on June 5-6.
Mr Hazzard told Parliament at least one insurance company was “ducking” claims made in his electorate, which covers beaches in Sydney’s north.
“Insurance companies can stand behind the words in their policies or they can duck and hide behind them,” he said.
”I put those companies and the insurance industry on notice that, when life is tough, they have an opportunity to show they are part of the community...to show they go beyond the interpretations of their policies.”
