UPDATE
Police are reminding footy fans to plan ahead with large crowds already arriving in the Cronulla precinct today.
Thousands of fans have already descended upon the Cronulla-Sharks Leagues club and venues across the Sutherland Shire, with local police warning crowds are only expected to increase.
A high-visibility operation is underway and will involve officers from Miranda and Sutherland Local Area Commands, Operations Support Group (OSG), Police Transport Command (PTC), the Dog Unit, Licensing Police and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.
Miranda Local Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Gary Ford, said while he anticipates the majority of people will enjoy the match responsibly, he’s urging fans to show consideration for local residents.
“Parking is going to be a nightmare so we suggest you leave the car at home and make use of public transport to and from venues,” Superintendent Ford said.
“We'd also like to remind spectators at licensed venues to drink responsibly. We want everyone to have a great time this weekend but we won’t tolerate behaviour that risks the safety of others.”

At ANZ stadium police will conduct a high-visibility operation including the public order and riot squad , mounted unit, dog unit, police transport command, PolAir and the traffic and highway patrol command.
A large number of security guards will also be on hand to targeting trouble makers.
Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli said police will not tolerate fans that choose to do the wrong thing and spoil the event for others.
“It promises to be an exciting game on Sunday, with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks striving to take out their first premiership title, so we want to ensure everyone can enjoy the atmosphere safely,” he said.
“This is a family-friendly event and we’re focused on maintaining that reputation, police will be targeting those who engage in anti-social behaviour or alcohol-fuelled violence.
“The message is simple, if you play up you will be ejected from the stadium immediately and you may very well face further police action.
“I also want to remind spectators to be considerate of others during post-match celebrations; whether your team wins or loses on Sunday, there is no excuse for violence, intimidation or anti-social behaviour.
“The same goes for those who are celebrating locally in Cronulla or the surrounding suburbs before, during and after the match this weekend.’’
He said there will an obvious police presence across the Sutherland Shire.
“Those taking in the live feed at ‘Shark Park’ should also be mindful of their safety, and the safety of others with large crowds expected to attend,’’ he said.
“Police will act in a fair but firm manner to ensure everyone has a good time and enjoys the grand final festivities, but not at the expense of other people’s safety.”
Fans are being urged to use public in getting to and from the game.
