POLICE are investigating yet another fire at the old St John’s orphanage in Goulburn after a blaze tore through the building for the second time in two days overnight.
More than 30 firefighters responded to the Friday night blaze, with two aerial appliances tackling the fire at the building’s rooftop as a large section of the western side of the roof collapsing.
Inspector Rob Post of Goulburn police said officers were exploring links between all three fires in the past two and a half weeks.
They are following up several leads that have emerged from public information.
“Police have also been liaising with the council regarding the integrity of the structure as it remains,” Inspector Post said on Friday night.
The Goulburn Post asked the council what action it could reasonably take regarding the building’s dilapidated state and public safety risk, however a response was not forthcoming.
