ACCIDENTS and injuries can happen anywhere and mostly occur when least expected.
The Red Cross encourages residents to improve their first aid emergency skills ahead of the summer holiday season.
When getting ready for fun in the sun, the Red Cross recommends everyone packs a first aid kit.
Red Cross first aid trainer Anthony Cameron said at least one person in every household should know first aid.
“Responding to an injury early with effective first aid treatment can minimise the impact and support a faster recovery,” he said.
“It only takes a few hours to learn essential skills to keep your family and friends safe.
“Children are prone to accidents and parents who have completed the training tell us they feel much more confident to do something if there was an emergency.”
‘First Aid for Babies and Children’ is a Red Cross first aid course that takes about four hours to complete.
The course gives participants the skills and knowlege to spot common childhood illnesses, manage allergic reactions, shock, bleeding, choking and asthma and save lives using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
