Small businesses all over the country are getting ahead with clever marketing strategies that don’t require taking out a second mortgage. It’s never been easier for a small business to reach new audiences with so many online platforms making it simple to do what used to be expensive and time consuming.
Let’s start with social media. Regardless of the type of business you run, social media will help you get your message out in front of new customers, stay engaged with existing ones, and ultimately lead to sales. If you’re not using it, start today.
Facebook is an obvious place to start, but definitely not where you finish. If you’re looking for a younger audience, over half of all Instagram users are aged between 18 and 29 years of age. For more professional and business-to-business marketing, LinkedIn might be better. Twitter is still valuable for getting in front of media influencers and building your reputation as an expert.
But your social channels may feel a little bare without some good content to fill them with. When we talk about content, we mean articles and blogs, infographics, videos, eBooks, podcasts, social media events like Facebook Live, or any other way that people engage with information from you.
You don’t always need to create new content. With so much out there already, curating content – re-publishing, re-posting or re-purposing existing content from other sources – might be a good option for you.
Remember, if content is King, then presentation is Queen. So get your headline catchy, images attractive, and captions enticing. No point creating great content if no one is going to click.
Never underestimate the power of emails: they can still be a seriously powerful marketing tool, especially when you do it smart.
You need to be clever about how you get people signed up to your database; offering an incentive such as a competition, a downloadable resource or special offer is a good way to do this.
And with most email providers you can easily set up systems of automated emails, which are triggered to send to certain customers at certain times to stay front of mind, at the right time.
