After winning the inaugural season of The Voice Australia in 2012, Karise Eden dominated ARIA single charts and her debut album also topped the charts.
These days, she’s far more comfortable living the quiet, simple life on a north Queensland farm with her partner Jason and their young son Blayden.
“It’s a nice lifestyle,’’ Eden says. ‘‘With all the technology these days, it’s nice to turn everything off.
“I like living on my own terms and just being a normal family.
‘‘I’m old school, I like my farm and I just want to raise my family.’’
Eden said by featuring on the reality show, her singing career took a turn for the better.
“As soon as the first episode airs, your whole life gets flipped upside down,” she said.
Fans now come up to her on the street and she said she “really loved that”.
“When I get recognised by fans, I take it as a compliment. It also gives me confidence.”
Now 23, the singer/songwriter grew up in Wyoming, central NSW, but her home life was marred by dysfunction and self-esteem issues.
She moved out of home aged 13, moving between women’s refuges before settling with a foster family.
After finding success on The Voice, Eden signed with Universal Music and had four songs in the ARIA Singles Chart Top Five in one week in June 2012 – the first artist to achieve this since The Beatles.
Her debut album My Journey was certified double platinum, while second album Things I’ve Done was released in 2014.
I really wanted to get back into getting on stage with just my guitar and really finding myself musically again

Recently she has been touring with X-Factor runner-up Dean Ray as part of their national ‘Rebellion’ tour which has seen them performing all over the country.
Eden said the Rebellion tour was about enjoying her music.
“I really wanted to get back into getting on stage with just my guitar and really finding myself musically again,” she said.
Throughout the tour, Eden and Ray performed both solo and duo acts.
“I’ve found a really good musical friendship with Dean, it’s just been brilliant.’’
This summer she is stepping out of a fresh spell of songwriting to perform songs from My Journey as well as to road test new material in small and intimate venues.
Her performance at the Django Bar in Marrickville on Saturday, December 10 will be a rare run of shows with stripped back, minimal production to showcase her incredible voice.
