In collaboration, Italian fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana and leading kitchen appliance supplier Smeg, will produce 100 hand painted retro design FAB28 refrigerators.
Six have been completed so far, with one of the refrigerator’s going on display at Winnings’ new store in Canberra.
No two refrigerators are the same and each product is expected to become a collector’s item or even a family heirloom.
Each refrigerator is completely covered in hand-painted artwork with unique designs and vibrant colours, depicting Sicilian folklore that D&G are renowned for.
The artwork is inspired by the Sicilian sun and the lava of Mt Etna, sumptuous friezes and rich geometric patterns depicting the battle between Argante and Tancredi.
Some other scenes portray Anthea of Babylon, fishermen catching a large octopus with Mount Etna in the background and one includes a verdant agricultural scene with lemons, sunflowers and a farmer picking his fruit by moonlight.
The other refrigerators in production are expected to take hours to paint by artists and Sicilian brothers Antonio and Giuseppe Bevilacqua.
