The Wagga community has banded together to fight famine in South Sudan, raising $13,000 for the cause.
West Wagga Refugee Committee co-ordinator Joan Saboisky said the group felt compelled to respond after former South Sudan now Wagga resident, John Moi, called for action.
“There are so many former South Sudanese people in Wagga who are just grieving for their country,” Ms Saboisky said.
“It takes a bit of a leap of thought because we are so lucky here and don’t understand about starvation and struggling for clean water.”
Ms Saboisky said the various groups involved refused to be indifferent to those suffering.
“There are so many worthy causes in the world that it can be overwhelming,” she said. “Little by little the generosity started to surface.”
