Angry residents have banded together to fight a proposed new Woolworths supermarket, cafe and liquor store in Parraweena Road, Miranda.
The Taren Point Action Group is inviting anyone who shares their concern to email: tarenpoint@apa.net.au
Sadie Mehan said residents were “blindsided”, because the council only notified them after a report appeared in the Leader, and, then, only a limited number of homes received letters.
Ms Mehan said Woolworths was “trying to pull the wool over the eyes” of residents by saying the location was Taren Point, when it was Miranda.
“There are already Woolworths supermarkets at Miranda, Sylvania and Caringbah and the last thing we need is another one,” she said.
We are working hard to ensure the development matches the expectations of local residents by addressing any concerns raised.

The council letter said the site was at present zoned industrial, and didn’t permit the proposed supermarket, liquor shop and cafe.
It stated, regardless of the council’s decision, a rezoning application could be made directly by the company to to the NSW Planning and Environment.
A council spokesman said, under the law, community consultation for such rezoning applications occurred after the NSW Department of Planning and Environment gave a proposal Gateway Determination.
He said the letter received by some households was not a formal notification, and the council “sympathises with the residents for the confusion”.
”Council will ensure all affected people will have full and proper opportunity to comment when council has received all information from the proponent,” he said.
Woolworths regional development manager Tony Pratt said the company was “actively engaging the local council and community around our proposed Taren Point development”.
”Our customers tell us they want access to a convenient community supermarket and we are working hard to ensure the development matches the expectations of local residents by addressing any concerns raised,” he said.
