Port Hacking and Sutherland croquet clubs held the inaugural battle for the Sutherland Shire Shield on Easter Monday.
Glorious autumn sunshine provided the backdrop for the occasion, with Port Hacking acting as the host club for the first contest for the shield.
Players from each club competed in pairs, with the battle on the lawns lasting the majority of the day.
The motto for the competitors was “for fun and friendship” which was in keeping with the spirit of the event.
Sutherland’s Margery Bennett and Port Hacking’s Lorraine Hatfield were the inaugural winners, who outlasted the runners-up of Sutherland’s Deb Morgan and Port Hacking’s Peter Cullen.
New members are welcome at both shire clubs.
