An art society in St George has got right behind an art therapy program – donating $5000 towards the cause.
The Oatley 101 Society of Artists has donated $5000 towards the See Me Hear Me program, being run by The Benevolent Society.
The See Me Hear Me program sees people living with mental illness produce art exhibitions, while using art therapy to assist them in their daily lives.
Oatley 101 Society of Artists president Geraldine Taylor said it was a great program to support.
“We wanted to make a difference to the many people who are touched by mental illness,” she said.
“As our society grows bigger, we wanted to be able to give back to the community. We believe very strongly in the power and healing process of art."
The Oatley 101 Society of Artists hold an annual art exhibition at Ardency Aroona in Yowie Bay and donate the profits made by the exhibition to a local community arts program.
