George Kambosos Junior has had the disappointment of his fight with Franklin Mamani being cancelled softened.
Kambosos has climbed to No.7 in the official World Boxing Association lightweight rankings. That means there are now only six men between Kambosos and WBA champion, Venezuela’s Jorge Linares. Linares has been mooted to fight British No.1 contender Luke Campbell in September.
The 24-year-old Kambosos has been in the Philippines sparring more than 40 rounds with legend Manny Pacquiao ahead of his bout with Jeff Horn in Brisbane next month.
Kambosos will return to Australia on Saturday, flying to Brisbane with Team Pacquiao to finish off the camp.
Promoters were forced to cancel the Sylvania fighter’s bout against Mamani due to the Bolivian’s Visa issues but Kambosos is hopeful of securing another big fight.
