Emergency services were called to the beach at 8:45am after reports of a man in trouble.
Surf lifesavers were first on the scene and were soon joined by the Toll helicopter.
A paramedic was then dropped down to assess the patient.
David Stride from NSW Ambulance said the man hadn’t lost consciousness but had suffered head and suspected spinal injuries.
‘’We’ve had to launch a helicopter to extricate the patient back to the beach where he has been transported to St George Hospital.
‘’It had to be very delicate because we had to be mindful of spinal injuries.’’
