WITHOUT a dog, Suzanne Gould’s life would be markedly different.
The Bendigo resident has been slowly losing her sight since she was born.
“I have a tiny amount of central vision, like looking through very fine straws,” Mrs Gould said.
The 63-year-old has no depth perception, and limited low-light vision.
But Mrs Gould’s Guide Dog, Avis, has given her a freedom of mobility that surpasses anything she’s known since she noticed her sight was deteriorating.
“It’s almost as effortless as it was before I realised I was losing my vision,” she said.
Today is National Dog Day, a time to celebrate our four-legged friends and raise awareness and support for pet adoption.
