Members of the community can get a sneak peak inside St George Hospital’s new building next month before it becomes operational.
An open day for the Acute Services Building – the tallest building in Kogarah – will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 9am to 1pm.
The building on Gray Street, which is almost complete, is the main stage of St George Hospital’s $277 million redevelopment.
Members of the community can book in a free tour for the open day.
The new building will help the hospital deliver first-class care and facilities for patients and staff.
St George Hospital general manager Leisa Rathborne said the hospital wanted to give the community an opportunity to look at the new facilities inside the building before they become operational.
She said that includes the new operating suites, inpatient unit and intensive care unit.
“Visitors will be given a rare insight into clinical areas that are generally off limits to the public when St George Hospital opens its doors to the Acute Services Building,” Ms Rathborne said.
“Inviting community members to tour this wonderful new facility is a way of giving back to a community that continues to support its local hospital.”
Some of the key additions inside the building include eight additional operating suites, a new intensive care unit with 52 beds, and an additional 128 inpatient beds.
“It is fitting that such an important new facility for our community is also architecturally pleasing and easy to identify on the skyline,” Ms Rathborne said.
Staged opening of departments within the new building will begin on Monday, October 23 with all departments in the Acute Services Building expected to be opened in December.
