A 15-months-old girl was left unattended for nearly an hour in a car in a Hurstville shopping centre during extremely hot weather on Sunday, police say.
St George police were called to the car park on Forest Road about 11.30am after concerns were raised about the child.
“Police were told a 39-year-old woman had parked there about 10.40am and entered the shopping centre, leaving her 15-months-old girl inside the car,” a police spokesman said.
“The child was removed from the vehicle and assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics on scene; she did not require transportation to hospital.
“The woman was arrested and taken to St George Police Station where she was charged with leave child/young person in motor vehicle causing emotional distress.
“She was granted bail and is due to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday, October 24.
“The Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) have been notified.”
