A Sutherland Shire small business “with a passion for good beer” has applied to open a micro-brewery and food and drink premises in an industrial unit near the brick pit development and The Prince hotel at Kirrawee.
Sunday Road Brewing proposes to brew about 1200 litres of beer a day, initially producing about 100,000 litres a year, in a rear factory unit at 147 Bath Road, near the intersection of Princes Highway.
A development application (DA) lodged with Sutherland Shire Council said a micro-brewery would provide “the opportunity for beer tastings, food and other drink sales”.
“It is not proposed to establish a ‘small bar’, however the premises will be licensed appropriately by the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing,” the DA said.
The DA said the proposed business hours were 10am to 10pm seven days a week, but “production times are effectively 24 hours given the nature of brewing and the seven day fermentation process”
“Overall the entire brewing process takes two weeks,” the DA said.
“Sunday Road Brewing is owned by a local family with a passion for good beer and the local community.
“We make beer from the finest ingredients using artisanal processes.
“Our beers are about quality not volume, both in production and consumption.
“Our beers were released into the local area in March, 2016.
“Since then, we've introduced thousands of people to fresh locally made beer with a point of difference to their usual tastes.
“We are now a constant in fine restaurants and hotels across the shire, Sydney and interstate.”
The DA said the business recently won a silver award at the Craft Beer Awards Australia.
“This is the highest award given to a beer from the shire, which has given our brewery a reputation for quality beer across the country,” the DA said.
“We seek to give our business a home in the local area.”
The DA said the craft beer industry was a $400 million plus industry that was growing at 10 per cent a year.
‘”We believe it is a great opportunity to add our brewery to the Sutherland Shire community and bring with it the benefits of the expanding craft beer industry,” the DA said.
