Bexley Golf Club’s junior pennants team have made more history, winning the club’s first state junior pennants title.
Having celebrated the club’s first Sydney Metropolitan Junior Pennants title in 25 years late last year, the Bexley team of Jeffrey Guan, Josh Todd, Sebastian Sara, Marco Perin, Oliver Davis, Arki Valdy, Kayun Mudadana and Aaron Valdy won the state title at Newcastle Golf Club earlier this month.
Bexley downed Dubbo in the semi-final 4-2 as the younger and shorter hitting Bexley boys handled the windy conditions better than their older rivals.
That left the final against Northern Rivers District Golf Association.
And again they didn’t let playing bigger, stronger opponents phase them, as Jeffrey produced a miraculous comeback from one down with five holes to play in his match. Jeffrey sunk a monster putt on the 15th, holed his bunker shot for birdie on 16 and sunk a 10 metre putt on 17 to win.
Bexley led 3-1 before Marco and Josh were forced to an extra hole in their matches, with Marco able to tap in for bogey to win the title.
It was a remarkable victory, with the competition for boys and girls up to under-18s. But when the Sydney Metropolitan tournament started in early October, Bexley’s squad included one 13-year-old, five 12-year-olds and two 10-year-olds.
