Recently our local area lost a great community-minded and driven individual, former Hurstville Council Mayor Merv Lynch OAM (“Death of former Hurstville Council mayor”, Leader, January 10).
Being chairman of Hurstville Senior Citizens Management Committee, patron of Hurstville Seniors Computer Club, patron of 3Bridges Community and member of the Illawarra Catholic Club, Merv was a proud and proactive member of the community.
When I was elected to State Parliament, Merv was my representative on the Hurstville City Council’s traffic committee. I could always rely on him for knowledgeable insights and advice concerning local issues. Merv truly knew and understood the local area, which his work reflected over the years.
I count it a privilege to have known Merv as a close friend and colleague for many years. I am deeply saddened by Merv’s passing and I extend my condolences to his friends and family in this difficult time.
