A scam alert is doing the rounds.
Police have warned people to be wary of scammers who are trying to con their victims into paying for scams with Apple iTunes gift cards.
The scammers will call consumers stating they are from a government agency or a well-known large business such as the Australian Tax Office, Centrelink, Telstra ,NBN or Microsoft.
Scammers have been impersonating government officers, saying the caller must to pay a fine using an iTunes card, are entitled to an additional payment or that their computer has been hacked and need remote access to their device.
Suspicious activity should be reporter to a police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
