The 2nd Elephant House Art Show at Cronulla this week hopes to restore the roof if not raise it.
The art exhibition is being held at St Andrew’s Anglican Church Cronulla - affectionately known as the Elephant House - on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17.
The nickname for the church comes from the fact that it was designed in the same Byzantine architectural style as the original elephant house at Taronga Zoo.
Funds raised at this year’s exhibition will go towards restoring the church’s dome.
The art show allows students from local schools as well as local artists to have the opportunity to display their work to a large audience.
Original artwork will include paintings, drawing, photography, sculpture, pottery, needlework, calligraphy and tatting.
Cronulla MP and NSW Attorney-General, Mark Speakman will open the event on Friday night at 7pm where there will be drinks and canapes while students from Woolooware High School will be playing soft jazz in the background.
On Saturday the art show will be open from 10am to 2pm and families are invited to visit the exhibition, browse or buy. There will be a sausage sizzle and devonshire tea or other treats for sale.
Entry fee for Friday night is $25 and includes refreshments.
Entry on Saturday is $5 or $10 for a family of two adults and two children.
