St George real estate agent Patrick Wedes would often marvel at the wonderful gardens he would see while out doing his job and thought it would be nice if those responsible could be rewarded in some way.
So late last year Mr Wedes and the Professionals Montgomery Group decided to run competition to find St George’s best garden and celebrate the work of the green thumbs responsible.
All residents had to do to be in the running was email or post three photos of their garden.
Judges then had to sift through images of perfectly trimmed hedges, charming letterboxes, flowers of all shapes and sizes in vibrant colours, wonderful fruit trees, water features, sculptures and so much more.
Travelling judge Myanna Wedes then popped out to take a closer look at the finalists before judges settled on the eventual winners.
And the winners were:
- 1st Place - Michael Marneros of Mortdale.
- 2nd Place - Charles Arndt of Lugarno.
- 3rd Place - Sunny Cheung of Banksia.
All winners received prize packs with goodies from crompton.com.au and Niche MG.
Mr Wedes said the winners came from right across the St George area and are very proud gardeners who love the areas they live in.
"They put a lot of effort into roses, water features, natives, succulents, ferns, palms and evergreen hedges,” Mr Wedes said.
“People of St George are happy to live here; they love the ease of moving around the streets, simple life opportunities, good schools, great neighbours.
“The diverse set of gardens in bloom across St George are a reflection of this.”
- The Best Garden competition was sponsored by Professionals Montgomery Group.
