One chair turn is all Seanny Millar needed to get through his blind audition for The Voice Australia this year.
The Jannali rocker’s rendition of Tonic’s 90’s hit song If You Could Only See impressed superstar coach Kelly Rowland, who was chosen as his mentor.
Seanny, 33, a scaffolder by day, performs at night.
It’s a day job he isn’t super passionate about, he said.
But having played in various bands and regular gigs, success has been limited.
Seanny decided to audition for The Voice after a psychic told him he would have success on the show.
“I was only rock guy to have gotten through, so I’m just stoked to be a part of it all,” he said.
“There are lots of great artists this season – the quality is really good but rock hasn’t been represented too much so I’m going to be the ambassador for all the rockers out there and just rock out.”
He describes his singing style as “grungey”, blended in with some rap, drawing inspiration from his favourite singer, Jonathan Davis from Korn.
And he had his eye on Kelly Rowland, who turned her chair for the rocker.
“Serendipitously it worked out in my favour because I’ve also got a rap and hip-hop background,” Seanny said.
“I played lots of basketball before and hip-hop came with the sport, so I was always a massive fan of Kelly. I would’ve chosen her out of the four anyway.
“If I won The Voice I’d be living my dream job and take the opportunity as it comes – tour, record, as be living exactly how I want to be living.”
He is now on Team Kelly and will appear in The Knockouts on Sunday, May 6.
