Nineteen car parking spaces will be removed to provide an extra right-turn lane at a major Caringbah intersection.
Work is due to start on Monday, May 14, at the intersection of Kingsway and Gannons Road.
Crews will work at night from 8pm-5am over 16 weeks, with the project scheduled for completion by August 30.
A Roads and Maritime Services statement said 13 car parking spaces on Kingsway and six restricted car parking spaces on Gannons Road would be removed.
The Australia Post mail zone and post box on Kingsway would also be removed and not replaced.
The decision had been made in conjunction with Australia Post, which found there was low usage of the post box.
Nearby post boxes are at 151 Woolooware Road Woolooware and 107 Yathong Road Caringbah South.
Cronulla MP and Attorney-General Mark Speakman said the state government was funding the project under the $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point and $100 million Congestion and Safety programs.
“More than 4000 vehicles travel through this intersection each day during the morning and afternoon peaks,” he said.
RMS said work would be carried out up to five nights a week for 25 shifts between 8pm and 5am, from Sunday to Friday.
”Work may be noisy at times but all measures will be taken to minimise impact to residents, including completing the noisier tasks by midnight,” RMS said.
”Temporary traffic changes will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists including lanes closures.”
