Cronulla Sharks players and staff came together for a cultural awareness afternoon on Wednesday ahead of the NRL’s Indigenous Round this weekend.
Sutherland Shire elder Aunty Deanna Schreiber again designed Cronulla’s indigenous jersey and explained the significance to the local area, with Cronulla originating from the word Kurranulla meaning “a place of pink sea shells” which feature on the strip.
Indigenous and non-indigenous people are also represented on the jersey with a prominent black shark and white markings on Cronulla’s traditional blue, which represents the ocean.
Players Edrick Lee, James Segeyaro, Jayden Brailey and Will Kennedy also joined the GLEN dance group for a special performance.
The Sharks travel to Canberra to face the Raiders on Sunday. Cronulla will also wear their indigenous strip for their home match against Canterbury the following week.
