Monday was a little more exciting than usual for children at Caringbah Public School.
Pupils met La Perouse-based crew members of the NSW Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service on May 21, when the chopper landed at their school.
The school was chosen to host a landing from more than 4600 primary schools across Australia, to learn about the importance of safety in places including the surf and bushland.
Landings are rewarded to schools that are actively engaged in the lifesaver rescue school program.
A highlight for kids getting the chance to go inside the helicopter and get their hands on state-of-the-art lifesaving equipment including night vision googles, winch capabilities and radio and navigation equipment.
They also watched a Westpac Little Ripper drone presentation.
By assisting with critical response support, deploying rescue devices and shark identification, the drone offers new possibilities to support multiple emergency services and ensure effective search and rescue missions when people find themselves in trouble.
