St George Brass Band had a record 27 entries in this year’s Band Association of NSW Metropolitan Solo and Ensemble Competition.
The event was held at Georges River Grammar School, West Bankstown on May 19 and 20.
Fifteen bands entered players.
“St George received the highest aggregate score of any brass band, coming second out 15 behind Castle Hill Wind Ensemble,” St George Brass Band secretary, James Moule said.
“The junior players ranged in age from nine to 16 years. They secured eight 1st Place, seven 2nd Place and one 3rd Place result.
“This was by far the best performance by the local band in the eighteen years that it has been supporting the event,” he said.
“There were many notable achievements on the weekend. Especially worth noting were Zachary Sharples winning the Mollie Neale perpetual trophy, the first time that a member of St.George Brass has won this coveted award.
“Isaac Hansen won both events that he entered, including the Aub Owens Memorial Award, the first time that a member of St George Brass has won this award.
“The band first and second in the Quinella results, for Under 13 Ensembles, Under 13 Duets, Under 13 Slow Melody and Under 13 Novice Brass.
“St.George were able to enter four pairs for Under 13 Duet. Several of these pairs could have entered Under 11 Duet if that event had been scheduled.”
