A fundraiser was held in memory of a young woman who fought type 1 diabetes, and for those who shared her disease.
The Danii Foundation Jelly Bean Ball at Darling Harbour on June 2 raised more than $300,000 for the diabetes charity.
It was founded after the death of Daniella Meads-Barlow, 17, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age five.
Her parents Donna and Brian Meads-Barlow established the foundation in her honour.
In 2017 the foundation secured $54 million of government funding to provide Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) for Australians under 21 years of age.
These monitors warn of deadly low and high blood sugar to its wearer and sends a secondary alert to a parent or carer.
The foundation’s latest campaign #NOMoreFear also aims to highlight resilience to the disease.
Mrs Meads-Barlow said money raised goes directly to those in need.
“It funds free trails 12 months scholarships of CGM and an educational event where all diabetes health professionals come together to support and educate those living with type 1 diabetes and their families,” she said.
“Often the results are totally transformative.”
