The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent statutory agency whose role is to implement the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
This scheme supports a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers.
The NDIS has outlined their priority as ensuring people with a disability continue to get the support they need.
The changes that are required to existing disability support systems are significant.
The scheme is being introduced gradually, to ensure a smooth transition for people with disability and support providers.
NSW was the first state to officially sign up to the full scheme.
Last month an announcement regarding new partnerships was made for Early Childhood Intervention (ECEI) services across New South Wales (NSW).
“Children in NSW with disability and developmental delay will benefit from an investment of more than $136 million in targeted services through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS),” said The Hon Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Social Services and The Hon Jane Prentice MP, Assistant Ministers for Social Services.

Lifestart, Northcott, Mission Australia, EACH, Intereach, and Cerebral Palsy Alliance will be funded to provide ECEI services to children with disability and developmental delay aged 0-6.
These partners have been called upon to support and will include services, such as short term, targeted speech and occupational therapy.
They are also due to provide information about local community and mainstream services.
They will provide support for families and carers, and assistance to access the NDIS for those children who may need longer term support.
“The new partners will work closely with the outgoing providers currently delivering ECEI supports to ensure all children are supported during the transition to full scheme NDIS in NSW,” said the Assistant Ministers.
Over 84,000 people in NSW are already benefiting from the NDIS, including more than 16,000 people who had not previously accessed government‑funded specialist disability supports. The NDIS is expected to eventually support around 140,000 people with disability in NSW.
The Australian Government said it is committed to finalising agreements for NDIS full scheme arrangements with each state and territory, improving the lives of around 460,000 people with disability across Australia.
The NDIS full scheme agreement for NSW will take effect from 1 July 2018.
