Georges River Counncil is celebrating Pride Month with events for the whole community.
As part of the council’s commitment to developing socially inclusive services and programs, Council will be hosting a number of events and activities for the whole community for Pride Month in June.
Pride Month is an annual event to commemorate the history of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI+) rights and related civil rights movements, and an opportunity for the community to get together and celebrate diversity.
On Tuesday June, 26, Georges River Libraries will hold a Rainbow Story Time at Kogarah Library and Service Centre. This session is suitable for preschool aged children and their caregivers, and will give families an opportunity to experience positive and inclusive role models in a fun environment.
Kogarah Library and Service Centre will also host the official launch of the Multicultural LGBTI+ Support Directory, a publication produced in collaboration by Georges River Council, Advanced Diversity Services, Kogarah Community Services and St George Youth Services.
The directory provides information to LGBTI+ people from culturally, religiously and linguistically diverse backgrounds to access services, and religious, cultural and sporting groups in the Sydney area.
Hurstville Entertainment will host a Pride Month movie marathon from 2pm on Saturday, June 23. Films will include Battle of the Sexes, Billy Elliot, Boy in the Dress and more.
For the duration on Pride Month, Georges River Libraries will be promoting its LGBTI+ collection, while Hurstville Museum and Gallery will be highlighting various stories through their Facebook and Instagram profiles using #GeorgesRiverPride.
