A new pedestrian bridge will be installed over the Princes Highway near The Prince hotel at Kirrawee.
The structure, at the intersection of the highway and Bath Road, will have lifts and stairs on both sides.
A Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) community update said the lifts would accommodate 21 people.
Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will also be installed.
The main bridge structure will be constructed off-site and will be lifted into place on the established foundations.
Work is expected to start in September this year.
Miranda MP Eleni Petinos said the bridge would “improve accessibility for local residents, children and members of our community with mobility requirements”.
“The NSW Government is funding the improvement as part of the $300 million Gateway to the South Pinch Point Program,” she said.
A community kiosk was held on Saturday at Sutherland, where residents were able to ask questions.
“Community members are encouraged to send any questions or concerns to the project team by Monday, July 9, for consideration as part of the finalisation of the project,” Ms Petinos said.
