Jeffrey Guan and Jackson Hall have helped Sydney East win the Combined High Schools Sports Association boys state golf championships.
Jeffrey, a Bexley Golf Club member representing Endeavour Sports High School, and Heathcote High School’s Jackson combined with their teammates to shoot a 668 total for the three round event to win by 15 shots over South Coast.
Jackson and Jeffrey were named in the boys CHS honour team following the tournament at Riverside Oaks Golf Resort, while Angelina Gong from St George Girls High School was named in the girls team.
Angelina’s Sydney East team finished second behind Sydney North who won by 27 shots.
Angelina and Jackson were also named in the girls and boys NSW All Schools teams. Bexley golfer Harrison Crowe was named captain of the boys team.
The Tony Stair Challenge, contested between selections from the Combined High Schools (CHS), Combined Independent Schools (CIS) and Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC), ended in a three-way tie.
Meanwhile, Oyster Bay golfer Matt Jones has warmed up for next week’s Open Championship at Carnoustie in Scotland by missing the cut at the Greenbrier Classic in the US.
Jones shot rounds of 70 and 68 to leave himself one shot on the wrong side of the cut line despite his two under total.
The 38-year-old qualified for the 147th Open Championship thanks to his tied second finish at the Australian Open in November.
