The life of a much-loved former member of Connells Point Public School was celebrated in colourful style this month.
Karel Dutton was a teacher-librarian of the primary school. She lost her bottle with breast cancer in 2017.
As part of the school’s Book Week celebrations, pupils and staff dedicated a space in the library and called it ‘Karel’s Cubby’ – a blue and white colourful space where pupils can sit and read their favourite books, which were donated by the P&C.
The reading area was created in memory of Mrs Dutton, who taught at the school from 1998-2015.
She retired due to ill health but in her time at the school she was known as a dedicated and passionate educator of public education.
Her library lessons were instructive and fun, and she was known to befriend children as well as teach them about the value of loving books.
