The old school bell will ring loud and clear for a historic moment at Burraneer Bay Public School this year.
Staff and pupils including those who were once educated within the four walls of classrooms will ring in 125 years of history on September 14.
The school opened in 1893 with an average attendance of 12-20 pupils. This has grown significantly across the years to 620 pupils in 2018.
There will be lots of celebrate on the eventful community day, which will bring together past and present memories of decades gone by.
Former pupils include Ingrid Reiger, who is the head of department of newborn care at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and Christine Walsh, a recipient of an Order of Australia and principal ballerina for the Australian Ballet.
Burraneer Bay teacher Narelle Georgouras (nee Green), was also a pupil of the school. Her father taught there and she has been a teacher at the school for the past 21 years.
“I feel very privileged to have nurtured many generations of the Burraneer Bay community,” Mrs Georgouras said.
“The methods are different today, but the aim is to still to encourage the students to question.”
The school will host a gala dinner from 7pm-11.30pm at Cronulla Sutherland Leagues Club on September 14.
There is also an open day from 10am-2pm on September 15.
