A Sylvania Heights aged care facility has been re-accredited following a change in ownership.
The Australian Aged Care Quality Agency decided in June this year not to renew the accreditation of Ark Health Care (formerly Pacific Heights Nursing Home), on Princes Highway, when it expired in September 20.
An audit found the 76-place facility was meeting only 19 of the 44 expected outcomes.
Areas in which it failed to meet required standards included clinical care, specialised nursing care needs, medication management, pain management, continence management, behavioral management, emotional support and leisure interests and activities.
The federal government agency reconsidered the matter in August and confirmed the initial decision.
However, in the same month, the ownership of the Sylvania Heights home and three other Ark Health Care facilities was transferred to Tierra Healthcare Group, operating as Carino Care.
The other facilities are at Oatley, Rockdale and Russell Lea.
The agency conducted another audit at Sylvania Heights on August 27-28 and found the home met all 44 of the expected outcomes.
A decision was made to renew accreditation for one year until September 20, 2019, and to monitor performance.
In 1981, the facility, named Pacific Heights Nursing Home at the time, was the scene of a tragic fire.
Fifteen elderly people died as a result of the blaze, which was started by another resident.
The Health Department subsequently approved rebuilding of the facility.
