The 41st Oatley Village Festival organised by the Oatley Lions Club attracted an estimated 15,000 people last Saturday.
After weeks of rain, festival morning was clear and dry. The rain and thunderstorms held off until almost all the packing up was completed.
Festival coordinator Bryan Pirie reported a record profit of over $47,000 which will go to support vital community projects.
“This was a big jump on last year’s result of $36,000 and the highest ever result in the 41 year history of the event,” he said.
He particularly thanked the 75 volunteers who helped out on the day.
A highlight was the Lego display including a 'best of the schools' Lego display competition with the three local schools in Oatley.
There was a quilt auction with proceeds going to the McGrath Foundation, the regular Harley Davidson crew were back for rides and there was a new busking stage for anyone who’d like to showcase their talent.
The festival took over Frederick Street Oatley and the Oatley Memorial Gardens with 180 food, craft and novelty stalls.
“A huge thanks to Oatley residents for their patience with road closures and festival arrangements.
“Thank you to everyone who came along to enjoy all the fun of the festival,” Mr Pirie said.
“You contributed to a hugely successful day. The festival was officially opened by Georges River Mayor Kevin Greene, with attendance andcontributions to the festivities from Federal member David Coleman MP and State member Mark Coure MP.
“Special thanks to Councillor Sandy Grekas for her funding support and turning up to volunteer on the day.”
Some highlights included the first ever Lego competition, the results are:
Junior School Challenge - Oatley Public School
Senior School Challenge - Oatley West Public School
K2 - 4 Individual - St Josephs Catholic School
Yrs 3 - 4 Individual - Oatley Public School
Yrs 5 - 6 Individual - St Josephs Catholic School
“Once again the performances from local schools, dance groups, community bands and some amazing contemporary music bands had audiences bopping along,” Mr Pirie said.
“The busking stage for showcasing new talent was outstanding this year.”
