Berts ‘empties’ in shed
As a regular reader of the Leader, I was pleasantly surprised to read about Bert’s Soft Drinks 50th anniversary (October 24). It was an even bigger surprise to find a Berts soft drinks crate with ‘‘empties’’ in my late husband’s tin shed! He used to have his drinks delivered - how many years ago?

A/C? You must be joking!
Craig Kelly worries that pensioners will not be able to run their air conditioners due to the cost of electricity once the hot summer days arrive. No need to worry Craig, we cannot afford to even buy an air conditioner. Just another example of Liberals having no idea of how the average pensioner lives -especially if they pay rent out of their pension.

Mall’s slow progress
Re “Mall works fear: Council warned about risk to reputation” (Leader, November 7). Sorry the Mayor and Councillors demolished the most requested amenity to be retained in the mall during the community consultation for the mall upgrade, the Cronulla Rest Centre. It has taken over a year for council to upgrade the site of the much loved (now deceased) Pirate Ship. How long would the whole mall take at this rate?

Labor’s stance on planning
To say that parkland is precious in our overcrowded city is stating the obvious. So It was refreshing to see Kogarah MP Chris Minns announce he would "dump planning laws that are ruining the most beautiful city on earth” (had he been elected state Opposition Leader). Similarly Michael Daley, the successful candidate, promised the ALP "will make Sydney more liveable and stop unfairness and overdevelopment in the planning system". Can we now assume the six Labor representatives on Georges River Council will vote down the unpopular plan to develop the Oatley Bowling Club site?
