A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a girl, seven, in a toilet shared by a Kogarah dance studio was reportedly on parole at the time of the incident.
Kogarah MP Chris Minns said he has been “inundated” with concerns from the community on Monday morning following the horrific sex attack.
Mr Minns says he will urgently seek answers from the government as to why the alleged offender was out on parole.
“I’ve had emails, calls, social media posts, as of about 8.30am this morning,” he said.
“I’m very concerned as to what the circumstances of his parole conditions were.
“I will be demanding answers to provide assurance that public safety is being protected.”
He also praised the actions of the two men who intervened.
“Their heroic actions have highlighted what a strong community we have,” Mr Minns said.
“Their actions should not be forgotten at this point when we ask questions about the parole system.
“I was shocked and distressed by this incident. This is a very sad situation and traumatic for the people involved.
“People demand confidence in the system.”
Corrective Services Minister David Elliott has called for an “urgent” briefing on the case.
“I am deeply troubled by the events under investigation a the Kogarah dance studio,” Mr Elliott said.
“The offender was on parole and was subject to a number of strict conditions.
“As community safety is paramount, I have asked for an urgent brief on all the circumstances which led to the offender being granted parole.”
Anthony Sampieri, 54, remains under police guard in St George Hospital.
He was injured when two men went to the aid of the girl, who may have been in the toilet for about half an hour during the alleged attack on Thursday night last week.

Sampieri, was sentenced in July 2013, in the Wollongong District Court, to a non-parole period of four years, with an additional term of three years, on a charge of aggravated sexual assault.
He was convicted of sexually assaulting a 60-year-old woman after he lured her to his home on the pretext of selling her second hand tables.
Judge Paul Conlon backdated the sentence to when Sampieri was taken into custody on October 22, 2012, the day the offences took place.
Judge Conlon said the victim had been subjected to a "terrifying and degrading experience".
The court heard that Sampieri was high on prescription drugs and alcohol when he invited the woman to his Elliotts Road home on the pretence of selling two second-hand tables.
After showing her the first table, he gestured for her to go into his bedroom to view the other furniture.
When she turned to leave the room Sampieri said: "Now we're going to have some fun", and he produced a 25-centimetre knife.
He ordered her to remove her clothes, then pushed her onto the bed and sexually assaulted her multiple times.
Sampieri was also sentenced to 18 months’ jail for one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two years for two counts of indecent assault.
The judge ordered that all jail sentences be served concurrently, making Sampieri eligible for parole on October 21, 2016.
Sampieri was reportedly subject to standard parole conditions but not wearing a GPS tracker.
Nicola “Nick” Gilio, 46, who went to the aid of the girl told News Ltd she was the real hero.
Mr Gilio and Kogarah dentist Jeffrey Stack, 59, an amateur boxer, confronted the man in the bathroom.
The alleged offender was punched in the head and knocked out.
“The little girl, she is the hero for the minutes she endured before I got there,” Mr Gilio said.
Mr Gilio, a parent of another young dance student, went looking for the girl when it was noticed she was missing.
During the altercation with the alleged offender, Mr Gilio was allegedly stabbed in the abdomen and the back of the neck with the scalpel.
He has since been released from hospital.
