Sutherland and St George are in strong positions after day one of their respective two-day, round six clashes.
At Glenn McGrath Oval, a Tom Doyle century helped Sutherland to 7/285 at the end of play against Sydney.
Only 74.5 overs were able to be bowled due to rain delays, but Doyle made the most of his time at the crease in the absence of former Test all-rounder Shane Watson.
Doyle hit 18 fours and four sixes in his 156-ball innings, reaching 129 before he was dismissed.
Captain Chris Williams continued his excellent recent form, posting his fourth half century in a row in making 82. Former Australia captain Steve Smith made 27 before being trapped leg before wicket.
At Hurstville Oval, Tom Engelbrecht took four wickets to help St George bowl out Blacktown for 238.
Blacktown opener Anjan Oberai made 104 before Luke Bartier ran him out. Engelbrecht took 4/52 from his 18 overs.
St George are 0/40 in reply.
Play resumes at 10.30am on Saturday.
