De La Salle Senior College Cronulla student Lillie McDonagh has been selected for Art Rules, the annual exhibition of HSC artworks at Hazelhurst Gallery, Gymea.
Her project, “The Language of Colour” combines her academic studies in visual art with her chemistry studies.
The series traces the history of colour and how it has gone from a rare commodity to a mass produced part of the contemporary world.
Lillie explores the expensive and rare organic and mineral pigments of the Renaissance colours.
She was inspired by modern artists including Yves Klein, who invented his own blue, and Anish Kapoor, who experiments with long chain carbon nanotubes to produce the blackest black.
“Lillie's cross-curricular art work is a tribute to the teaching she received in the sciences and arts at OLMC and De La Salle,” art teacher, Byron Hurst, said.
“It also demonstrates the importance of creativity and innovation to the applied sciences.”
Her work will be on display at the Hazelhurst Gallery in the school holidays.
