Cronulla venue owner Geoff Trio, who recently oversaw the success of the Australian Music Week project, has plans for a new shire nightlife experience.
Mr Trio has plans to showcase “Americana” music on Wednesday nights at his El Sol Bar in Cronulla.
El Sol was a host venue during Australian Music Week and Mr Trio said the restaurant and bar worked so well as a performance venue that he is eager to continue a musical theme.
Mr Trio said he chose Americana music because it has a reputation as an earthy, authentic sound.
“It’s a style and sound that is recognised as part of a gigantic musical landscape that encompasses material recorded by the late great Tom Petty and Americana influences can be heard regularly in Bruce Springsteen’s work," he said.
“It’s a sound with a great legacy that also belongs to the renegade ramblings of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.”
Shire musician and Americana/Country Rock artiste, James Van Cooper, will be a regular on the night and his tenure at El Sol begins Wednesday, December 5.
Van Cooper’s debut album Coming Home was recently recorded in Los Angeles with input from members of the Miley Cyrus band and musicians who’ve collaborated with Stevie Nicks and Shelby Lynne.
He will perform, host and present proceedings, accompanied by a variety of support acts over the coming months.
